ET Budget survey: No crisis but jobs are scarce
NEW DELHI: Is there really a jobs crisis in the country? Several experts and opposition parties have argued that there is a full-blown jobs crisis. However, according to an ET online survey, people think jobs are scarce but not as scarce as to indicate a crisis. In answer to the questions, 'What do you think about employment situation in the country?', 11 per cent respondents said there was no jobs crisis while 50 per cent said there was no crisis but jobs were getting scarce. 35 per cent of respondents said there was a big jobs crisis. A total of 10,506 people were polled online for the survey. 67657634 In the survey, need for economic reforms and business slowdown take precedence over jobs problem. Answering the question, 'What is your main expectation from the new government that comes to power next year?', 47 per cent respondents wanted further economic reforms. 35 per cent wanted it to create more jobs, 16 per cent wanted it to give incentives to businesses and small entrepreneurs and only 2 per cent wanted it to waive off farm loans. 67657696 Respondents cited business slowdown as their biggest economic worry while jobs ranked second. In answer to the question, 'Which is your biggest economic worry?', 31 per cent said it was business slowdown while 23 per cent said it was jobs. 67657724 Last year, the debate on jobs crisis grew louder when a report by Prof. Pulak Ghosh of IIM Bangalore and Dr. Soumya Kanti Ghosh, chief economic adviser, SBI, studied payroll data to conclude that 15 million jobs were being created every year. The report came in the wake of widespread criticism of the Narendra Modi government on what was called its utter failure to create jobs. 67656899 67640095 67640099
