If you had any doubts about Jio's power, here's your eye opener

KOLKATA: Reliance Jio Infocomm has yet again stolen a march over older incumbent carriers by adding 10.5 million mobile phone users in October, taking its subscriber base to nearly 263 million, while Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel lost as many as 7.36 million and 1.86 million customers respectively amid continuing pricing aggression from the Mukesh Ambani-led telco.Accordingly, third-ranked Reliance Jio has widened market share to 22.46% (21.57%) over the previous month, while market leader Vodafone Idea and second-largest carrier, Bharti Airtel, have seen month-on-month dips, data collated by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) showed.Vodafone Idea’s market share in October was pegged at 36.55% -- the aggregate customer market shares of erstwhile Vodafone India and Idea Cellular was higher at 37.2% in September. Sunil Mittal-led Airtel’s market share, in turn, dipped marginally to 29.2% (29.39%) from the previous month.Experts fear Vodafone Idea – formed last August after the merger of Vodafone India and Idea Cellular – could lose both customer and revenue share in coming months as it is likely to focus largely on integrating two large companies and their mobile networks. 67358615 Vodafone Idea though remains the country’s largest telco with 427.60 million customers, while Bharti Airtel remains at second spot with 341.65 million users.State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) added 0.36 million customers in October, while Tata Teleservices lost 0.92 million, the telecom regulator said.Visitor Location Register, a key metric reflecting the number of active users on a mobile network, indicated that 99.57% of the customers were active for Bharti Airtel, 94.47% for Vodafone, 92.59% for Idea, 82.26% for Jio and 56.52% for BSNL.Data collated by regulator showed that the total number of mobile and landline subscribers in India rose a tiny 0.05% to 1.192 billion at the end of October from end-September.
